SEPANG: Police shot dead the leader of a notorious robbery gang while he was hiding in a bush report The Star Online News.

The robber, later identified as Matruji a.k.a Mat Ting War, 43, from Sampang, Indonesia, was spotted sitting in a car by a police during a routine patrol at Taman Mas around 9pm on Tuesday.

When the police approached him, the robber quickly got out of the vehicle and ran and hid in a nearby bush before firing a few shots at the police.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaffar said said that his men were forced to returned fire and killed the robber.

“After the shootout, we recovered a semi automatic pistol, bullets, a bolt cutter and a crowbar from the scene,” he said during a press conference at Sepang police headquarters on Wednesday.

He said Matruji is the mastermind of a notorious robbery gang called “Geng Rantau Mahkota” and he has been involved in at least 27 robberies in Selangor and the rest of the country since 2005.

“He was arrested in 2011 under the Emergency Ordinance but was released two years later,” he said.

The car used by Matruji was also reported stolen during a robbery by him at Sikamat, Negri Sembilan.

DCP Abdul Rahim said police are still on the look out for the remaining members of the Matruji’s group.
